How to take out a passenger seat?
Comments
-
you can do it your self but make sure you treat the seat with respect and handle carefully, make sure all wiring under the seat is tucked out the way so you dont catch it with the wrench hand etc,
disconnect battery, wait 5-10mins, locate seat side airbag connector (usually yellow) usually under the carpet near the seat, disconnect with caution by pulling the plug out (do not wiggle it) as level a possible. once disconnected remove your seat, then fit the seat in put the plug back in connect battery wait 5-10mins incase of delayed detonation, (if you damage the yellow plug do not put it back in to the airbag comms unit, call an autolecky have the plug removed and new one put back on.0 -
Mosr airbags are fired by an electronic decelerometer, sending a signal to the charge in the seatbelt,or airbag.
So how does a decelerometer detect a side impact and fire the side impact airbag in the seat? - It doesn't.
As said, be careful if the seat (not the dash, the seat) has airbags.0 -
They're a bit more advanced than a ball bearing in a glass tube nowadays.0

Going back to the original query, why are you taking out the seat? A lot of modern ones in up-spec cars are incredibly heavy and difficult to move around on your own. Most covers can be replaced in situ with a lot of patience too, and if its say, for replacing the carpet, a sharp knife modifies things nicely under the seat and out of sight.
If it has to come out, nothing like going to the scrappy and doing your practice there, you'll know the fixings and what trim has to come out without ruining your own!0 -
Don't worry about the airbags too much - just be careful as already mentioned in several posts above and you'll be fine. The biggest problem I have is trying not to damage the car with the rails as I take the seat out, especially if they're leather and or electric! Sometimes you need a decent bit of leverage (12" bar should be more than enough) to get the bolts out if the car is a bit older but it shouldn't be too bad really.0

Well im replacing the seat with a new one, as the other one has broken (stays in a lying down position and doesnt click into place on the run) - its my own fault, i brought a wardrobe home from IKEa and shoved it into the back, it must have squashed the joints inside or something coz they havent worked since.
Took it to lots of different people and they all advised that swapping the seat would be a much easier and cheaper answer.
The car is a Citroen Pluriel 2003

Amazing, as i started reading this post I thought "bet its a Pluriel". They seem to have quite a few problems with the passenger seats failing. Have you actually got a replacement seat? It might be hard to get one from a scrapper if they regularly fail.
My citroen has allen-headed bolts accessed from inside the car to remove them, but you won't budge them with standard allen keys. You need a socket-type allen key and (obviously) a socket wrench.0 -
use a breaker bar and slowly build up the pressure on the bolt0

I do have the replacement seat, after a lot of searching. Found one for breaking on Ebay eventually and got it delivered for 60 pounds. I dont have any of these tools that i am hearing so i think a trip to the garage it is!so far....Radox Waterproof book...10 Business cards (ideal for new pad!)...Fabric samples...Shower timer...Flush saver...Seeds ahoy...0

That sounds like your best option. :Tmrsmasterplan wrote: »..... i think a trip to the garage it is!"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
