Halifax Mortgage Do They Owe Us Money?

Got a letter from Hx saying we've over paid over a few years.... Didnt know!

Further down the letter they say they are knocking the overpayment off our total owed. (£5000. overpayment).

Can it be paid back in my pocket... where it will find better use?

Anyone else had one?

Thanks,

Don't be silly. Why not just ask some randoms on a web forum who may or may not know the answer rather than doing the obvious.

  • Thanks for that.... I thought I'd looked everywhere..... Looks like a payment is to be made to me... and not the mortgage. It's probably best to have the mortgage reduced... but skint at the moment. Thanks Again.. Merry Christmas

You were not expecting it and it would save you thousands off you mortgage over the term so why not just pay it off the mortgage !!!! NOW
That way you are ahead in your mortgage payments so if EVER!!! you need a mortgage holiday you can have one because you have overpaid.
In fact the best thing you can do is pay this cheque off the mortgage and ask for your mortgage payment to remain static ( paying the same amount you have for the last 2/3 years ) and then you are overpaying a little each month and building up the overpayments.
You are saving TAX FREE by overpaying and clearing the mortgage sooner therefore MF years before retirement. Building up more equity in your home if you want to trade up in years to come.
Or you could just blow the money on a two week holiday to Egypt all inclusive plus a new smart phone

Yeah Right... come back to the real world where everyone is scratching a living... To us its like a lottery win.

Could afford 8 weeks in Egypt for 6 now... or keep heads above water for 12 months... Guess what... Im swimming.

Cheers... Without this site I would not have known about the 'windfall'
