This would depend on the engineers report. This will cost you a fair few quid as a local pc repair shop etc will not be qualified to comment.
Whoever writes the report would also have to stand by the report if it ended up you taking them to court to force them to help.

Its not as simple as getting a report, sending it off and getting a cheque back by post.

I can;t post links, but if you type 'ps3 sales of goods act' into google, the first result that comes up (if your PS3 has died...)should be the thread i mentioned earlier on , where many people have been successful using this method.
  • I assume it is this thread you are referring to:

Whilst yes, they appeared to have got a brand new replacement this would likely be the most costly remedy to the retailer by a large margin and I would not expect them to do this on a regular basis. They could easily justify a repair or refund that would be far cheaper for them whilst still complying with the SOGA.

Give it a go, at the worst you would get your money back for the cost of the engineers report, at best (so it would seem) you could get an upgrade!

    Thanks for the reply.

Yep thats the thread. Would they refund me for the engineer's report? Even though they have stated a couple of times through email that they are not willing to offer any sort of remedy for my situation.
  • To be honest I would save your money and not bother with the engineers report and not bother as it's been 4 years since you bought it and I very much doubt you'll get anywhere.

Like I said before with mine it was 2 years and 3 months old and I had to accept the partial refund of £200 as I'd had use of it. They said even back then that 3 years is what they expect it to last for.
It's only a bargain if you need it.

I had allready googled and the first 2 sites that came up looked like all they were interested in was getting the fee to write the report.
Im sure all the feedback posted was genuine but you cant expect the same remedy for everyone.
You console is 4+ years and cannot gaurantee getting a new one or a refund.
Its your choice tho, best of luck if you give it a try.
  • They should refund but I still think you are on a hiding to nothing given the age of the console. Nothing ventured though....

You have to remember that even with an engineers report, they still don't have to accept it. It will take a court order for them to accept it so the report may not be the end of the problem.

If a lifespan of 4 years is deemed a reaonsable amount of time to last then an engineers report confirming the fault to be inherent would be irrelevant as it's already satisfied the requirements of SOGA.

Plus getting a report confirming a 4 yr old machine is faulty as a result of an inherent fault, I can't imagine would be easy.

Personally I think 4 yrs is reasonable to have the machine and agree with their stance.

I'd recommend you move on from this and accept nothing lasts forever.
To get £120 back is a little ambishous IMHO.

Extremely, as you can now get a brand new 320GB one for under £200
