7hours per kg to defrost in cool room on my coop label estimated mine at 35 hours as its 4.6kg ( my fridge not big enough to fit it in lol)0

I've defrosted frozen chicken slowly in the microwave and then put it in the oven to finish cooking (lots of times) ........................ and i'm still here. Its just best to be on the safe side in case you get a dodgy bit of meat. If i had the chance to buy a lovely big frozen turkey at a bargin price, i would sit it on my heated floor to defrost ! and i am going to go looking in the next couple of days cause i just luv a bargin :rotfl:0

I got a medium 5.6kg co-op turkey, I am not sure when to get it out to defrost, according to the label to defrost in a cool room 7 hours per kg = 39 hours (it was 89 hours  in the fridge but try as I might can't get it in).
However according to this online defrosting/cooking calculator from Bernard Matthews is should only take 19-26 hours.

I've always had a fresh turkey before, can anyone with defrosting experience advise me?:hello:0 -
Not in my local coop... they're still 14 (medium) and 20 quid (large)...
My coop didn't have reduced label on them, but went it through reduced at till. Worth asking them to scan if they have any left.
Oh, and a nice assistant man helpfully put it in a cardboard box for me to carry - only to get to the till and be told told by the assistant that I can't use the box because it has 'Co-op' on it!! Company policy apparently! How mad is that - you can use their plastic bags with their name emblazoned on it but not a box! Bonkers."A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it." :wall:

According to an email I got from the Co-op it's 3-4 hours in a cool room and 2 hours at room temperature. This site
http://www.christmas-turkey.com/frozen-turkey-defrost.php
says the same:
If defrosting in the fridage you should leave about 10-12 hours per kg. This is based on a fridge temperature of about 4ºC/39ºF. If your fridge is nt this temperature you should adjust the time it takes.
In a cool room below 17ºC you should allow 3 to 4 hours per kg to defrost. Again, you have to vary this depending on actually how cool the room is.
If you are thawing at room temperate 20ºC you should leave about 2 hours per kg to defrost.
I've bought a 7.2 kg frozen turkey this year and put it into the fridge on Wednesday evening to defrost. The turkey fits in fine but it's everything else I'm having problems accomodating0 -
I've done the rounds of the three Co-op's near me this afternoon and not a turkey in sight. I did manage to get a decent piece of fresh pork for half price though so it was worth the trip.I've worked in the Financial Services industry for the last 25 years.
