    After everything you have said, if it were me I'd talk to my current employer about the position you are in ( i.e. have a offer waiting for a solid offer) this way nothing will come as a surprise to them they sound like they have empathy with you. Ask them if your unconditional offer arrives over the holiday period would it be ok if you emailed the resignation letter in to work, Im sure if they are expecting it this will be reasonable to them.

    Don't be surprised if you don't get the formal letter for a couple of weeks at this time of year dotting the I s & crossing the t's can be a drawn out task, for varying reasons.

    Treat yourself to a bottle of your favourite tipple, and in the privacy of your own home toast yourself for getting a new job. Try and relax and enjoy what you've achieved in the current climate. you should be very proud of yourself.
