Thanks again guys for all the help , much appreciated!!
I've got my set of keys and I'll be changing the locks.
I wanted to know from a legal stand point what can I do, to make them pay the bill for changing the locks as I have a feeling they will be very resistant to pay up which irritates me0 -

Explain what happened, enclose a copy of the bill for the new lock barrel, and add on something for time/inconvenience. Send it to Head Office if there is one, or the Senior Partner or similar. Include an invoice for any extra keys you also have to get cut.
Or get the local paper to run a short story on the local EA - they'll hate the bad publicity!0 -
And if that fails, sue in the Small Claims Court.

And how keen will the local rag be to run a story about one of the few companies that still pay thousands of pounds for advertising in said paper?0 -

You need to rid yourself of their contract and move on. I would go in and see them, explain that as they have let you down, by not sorting out this problem you are cancelling the contract with them to sell your house. Tell them you will not be paying any fee for this, make sure you speak to the manager, obtain his agreement before you leave - or just keep speaking louder when any customers come in. Dont register with a new agent until you have in writing you are free from the contract, but push for this.
Not really worth bothering with a court claim for the loss, I would suggest it to them but not waste my time. Locks are not that expensive to DIY.0 -
Get the locks changed and pursue them for the money it has cost you. Get a locksmith in to do it, pay him/her then take the invoice into the EA and ask for payment. They lost your key, not you."Nil Sine Labore" - Nothing Without Labour0
