We do not have a cavity so we just suck it really as the room is not getting any warmer and we spend most of our time in the warmer rooms
Under the governments Green Deal which starts in Oct 2012 you may be able to get secondary cavity wall insulation installed at zero up front cost with the cost recovered via your electricity bill. The charges stay with the property.

Under the Green Deal, all measures have to meet a Golden Rule which means the monthly replacements will not exceed the cost of energy saved, in effect it costs you nothing.

That is really interesting Spiro thanks, is there any info on this that I can show my husband. I take it that it would not matter if we was in a Housing Association house?

    Try looking here http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/tackling/green_deal/gd_customer/gd_customer.aspx

It does allow for the bill payer and the property owner to be different people.
