I do not wish to turn this thread into a political debate but feel I must respond to your accusation

Is that not what you were doing with your snide comments about Gordon Brown that old chestnut !It was not a worldwide recession after all then was it ;).
And just to refresh your memory again did you forget the NHS was very close to collapse in 1997 .

But lets keep it on topic I would of thought another player in the energy market would be good news if you do not like the fact that the co-operative movement sponsors MPs take your energy custom elsewhere but how do you think the Tory party get there funds to run there election campaigns .

I can't resist the pop at people blaming Maggie for everything being wrong after over to decades out iof power. If everything she did was so bad surely labour in power for 13 years could have done something about it but Brown said he "admired her" and even Miliband said recently that some of her policies in the 80's were good.... As for worldwide recession we were one of the worse debt burdened G20 nations and would have broken the new Eurozone rules even before the 2008 financial crisis. As for the NHS I wont go down the £billions of PFI debt burden route that our grandchildren will be paying for.

The more players in the energy market the better. Offgem has been unable to control the illegal big six "cartel" It's maximum price controls having been taken away under the last government between 2000 and 2002 it became little more than a toothless quango,

Politics aside, as I posted earlier, I have no principles when it comes to my hard earned money. I may not like the Coop supporting the labour party but I happy to take their shilling if it's the cheapest for me... which it is..... If NPower were cheaper then I'd pay them whether they supported the Tories, Labour or the Monster raving looney party. ;)
If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.
If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.
  • E.On is cheapest for me at the moment. The next best is £105pa more according to the price comparison I've just run, and the Co-op is £166pa more. So I'll stay where I am until my current deal runs out, regardless of who owns it.

Kar999 all prime ministers whatever party they come from have success and failures in there policies this is normal but I would like to ask you something did the opening up of the energy industry help the everyday consumer .? did it lower prices ? who benefited ?

While you quote the PFI debt burden a policy to which the conservative party supported in full ! and if you wish to talk of financial matters it was the deregulation of the financial industry during Mrs Thatcher that was the start of the current problems and yes the Labour government should should have taken action when in power.
You cannot measure a country economic performance like your household finances on just the amount of external debt it has if that was the case Greece would have less external debt than Germany !

Maybe we should leave it there
    Happy new year

    Hi
Price comparison I've just run shows also, I am £320 better off with nPOWER than the Co-op 'and I am getting good feedback from then. They have just installed a new electric meter with an isolation switch placed after the meter, so that should any new wiring be required no need call them out to switch off their main fuse. The gas supply has always been like this controlled on/off by the householder.Phones to them answered within a few minutes or less and prompt attention always and their paper billing is spot on. I am very pleased with nPOWER Cheers

Agreed ..here is maybe not the place to debate Thatchers energy deregulation and Browns setting up of the FSA. For which we are paying the price for both.
    Happy new year too!
    Cheers!

I did a comparison on the Co-op site against my current supplier Ebico. Co-op proudly tell me:

We are only £48.00 more per year than your current supplier.

lol at only! Now, where do I sign?

If any company can make inroads into the cartel of 6 it will be the Co-Op.

I changed to Co-op Energy in October, as it worked out cheaper for me than to stay with Npower. Since then, we have received notification that prices will be reduced from Feb 1st, following a reduction in their wholesale costs. The occasions I've had to ring them, they have been very helpful & answered my questions in a straightforward & respectful way. I like the fact that I will also earn a few Co-op dividend points from my energy payments as well as 50 points per month for uploading my meter readings online. I primarily chose Co-op because following a completely unfounded rise in our monthly payment from Npower from £66 to £133, which didn't even reflect what their own figures were saying, let alone the amount we used, I decided I'd rather be away from the Big 6. Npower had also neglected to credit our account with dual fuel direct debit discount for 2 years, but we did receive this money back after we'd left. Early days with Co-op, so time will tell if promises hold good, but on experience to date, I'm happy with my choice.

  • We are only £144.00 more per year than your current supplier
  • We are only £120.00 more per year than your current supplier.

This calculation excludes the benefit of points which you earn as a Co-operative member. These could be worth approximately £29.00* at your level of spend.

But I would get £29 in points
