fitting of bamboo flooring

I'm thinking of getting solid bamboo flooring put in my kitchen - what would be a reasonable cost for paying for fitting per square metre? I was thinking of buying the boards from the bamboo flooring company (natural vertical).
Long shot - but can anyone recommend anyone near Plymouth?
Also, has anyone laid it in their kitchen and how have they found it?

I thought about bamboo too. Are you sure that it is suitable for a kitchen? I looked at the B&Q stuff and I think that it said that it wasn't.0

Bamboo flooring is beautiful, but a bit of a !!!!!! to lay dowm.
Most likely will cost more to fit as it comes in slimmer pieces, so more joints to mess with
Smells absolutely lovely though, even years down the line0 -

Re waterproofing: looked at b&q flooring too (or it might have been homebase - lost track!) - some are recommended for kitchens and some are not. The stuff on the website of bamboo flooring company is said to be okay for kitchens (but not bathrooms). I think as long as you mop up spills promptly and have adequate ventilation it should be okay.
I agree - it looks beautiful.0 -
It's solid bamboo, the fitting costs will probably be the same or MORE than the costs of the product. If a solid floor, it will almost certainly need a screed to level the floor (trust me it will not be flat enough) also glue to stick it down with (which is not cheap) plus the labour, which will probably run to a couple of days.
When I retailed flooring I used to say to customers to "think" £100/m2 as a fitted complete cost, it may come in less, may come in more, but it is in the right ballpark. bamboo is just about the cheapest solid flooring, but fitting it won't cost any less than the finest teak!Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0 -
its not that difficult to fit , we fitted ours between us [knee pads are advisable though] but its something id NEVER EVER have again , its cold and marks fairly easily. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

We had solid bamboo laid throughout the entire downstairs. It is extremely suitable for kitchens and bathrooms as it is a very stable wood. We also have it in our bathroom and bedroom upstairs. We've had it down 5 years and I still love it. I had it in the bedroom and bathroom at my old house as well and my mum then had it in her kitchen.
I think we just paid a carpenter appx £20 a square metre for laying it and it went down like laminate tongue and groove flooring.
It has got scratches on from our dog but nothing more than I would expect on other woods. I don't think it detracts from the floor in any way at all though. I'd have it again if we move but it's certainly going to be with us for quite some time here if we don't move. We went for the chocolate colour and it gets many compliments.0 -
Have a look at an old thread where I posted some photos of it down.
