We have been looking for a while for a house that fits our requirements and after dozens of viewings still haven't found 'the one'.
We were wondering about building our own property and how much this is likely to save us in the long run. We are fortunate in that we would have somewhere to live while we were building.
Has anyone ever done this and can they offer any comments/advice?

Building your own property is usually vastly more expensive than buying one.
This is mostly due to land costs, but also you don't have the economies of sale that the bigger house builders have.Save save save!!0 -
Finding suitable land that's not already been grabbed by the developers is going to be the most difficult thing.
And you'll pay for it if it comes with outline planning permission.
If it doesn't have outline planning permission, then you have no certainty that permission would be granted.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

what happens if you get land with outline PP at half decent price.
What is the average build cost going to be for say a 3 bedroom possibly four.
Do you get a kit and generally budget for 3 time the cost of the kit?0
