Quote for new bathroom

Hi everyone,

I've been quoted £4,500 for a bathroom refit. Does this sound fair:
> Remove old suite
> Remove all tiles
> Fit bath & basin in a new place in the room (ie not in the same place as they were)
> Replace toilet
> Install new radiator
> Tile entire room (163cm wide x 277cm)

We're supplying the suite but not the tiles.

The quote breaks down to £3,300 for labour and about £600 for materials, the rest is VAT.

Also, they reckon it'll take about three weeks. Seems a bit long for a smallish room.

What do people think (I'm in N London btw, as this is bound to effect prices!).

    Hi
I fit bathrooms and kitchens and would say that you are being overcharged by about £2000. And it shouldnt take any longer than 2 weeks max.

  • Hi,

Welcome to London! Prices in the city are about 50% higher than the rest of the country.

From this forum I gathered I should be able to get a central heating install done on my new house for around £3.5K.

Cheapest of 10 quotes was £5.8K.

Having said all that try getting a seperate plumber and tiler. In our last house we paid about £1800 for similar work (without any parts but we did move the loo some distance).

    Cheers

hubby fits kitchens & bathrooms in central london etc.
i type all his quotes up, that is way over the top. Just done a quote (and got the job :D ) for 2 bathrooms, boxing in pipes, tiling, etc, 3 wks work for the same price

you should be offered a not including vat price if you pay the fitter direct, not through a ltd co., as that's what we do, as most fitters are self employed and if they are not vat reg. they can't charge it,
also should only take about a week - 2 weeks max.
Perhaps you should look around for another fitter ?

i know a good one (but he doesn't pay his assistant very much !)
There are alot of other sites around that you can post jobs required on for free.
pm me if you want more details

    good luck,
    :p
I'm trying to be a good moneysaver

We had our bathroom completely gutted and refitted last year. The cost including tiling and flooring was around £3500. We are ooop North so prices will be cheaper, I realise. There was only one fitter doing the work, an electrician for a while to fit new shower, and the whole bathroom was finished with a week.
  • I am a plumber and believe I could offer you a better price...I would be happy to give you a no obligation estimate...cheers
  • Hi I am a plumber and believe I could offer you a price closer to your estimate for your central heating.Of course I would need to come and see what you require.I am happy to come and do that at your convenience.

    Best regards,
