Do M&S reduce food?

I went into my local M&S food today and found no reduced section.

Is this common to all M&S?

Thanks :)

They don't seem to have a reduced section, but put stuff back where it belongs. People on here have reported getting stuff reduced to pennies, but everything at mine seems to go to the nearest round pound (ie anything from £2 to £2.99 goes to £2 and no lower)

They dont usually reduce a lot of things as they sell them off at pennies to the staff at the end of the day. (ex M&S staff)

I thought that this was stopped years ago.

The stores i visit reduce stuff (and i'm not big and fat so not winterwhite's store!)

I got lamb shanks for 50p (down from £9), cheese for 50p, half price quiche, chicken kiev etc. As others said, not a reduced section just back where it should be.

Last year during the really bad snow i nipped into my local one and it was shutting early so the staff could go home, got my xmas turkey reduced from £35-£40 to £7:D

I think it depends on the individual store. My nearest seems to reduce twice a day - once around 11.00am and then again around 3pm. Everything has bright yellow stickers and goes back on the shelf it came from, not in any special reduced section. They have a very broad brush stroke attitude to reductions which is most noticeable on things like meat, where you can get very different sized items originally at different prices, all at the same price.

You have to be in the right place at the right time...you can get some real bargains late, but blink and they're gone. And of course you're unlikely to get what you need, more of things that you wouldn't normally buy...so is it really money saving?

  • It is worth looking in your local BP petrol station too, if they are an M & S Simply Food one.
Last night, around 8:30pm i got 4 X gammon roasting joints for 50p each, 2 X Smoked Salmon appetizers for 50p each, 2 X Vegetable samosas for 50p each and some fresh soup for 50p too!
Thank you to everyone that contributes on these pages!

  • I've seen reduced veg and sandwiches and bits like that in the Sheffield store, the smaller M&S food in Sheffield station reduces stock at around 5.30pm and its all gone by 6pm! But their reductions are good - I'll often pick things up reduced from £5+ to just £1 or which are reduced from £1-2/3 down to 50p!
