our boy did this a few times when ill too. About the only thing I'v elearnt about babies and young children is when they are hungry, they let you know, if they aren't hungry don't force them, if you need to, leave snacks/treats (bananas/biscuits/breadsticks/crackers/grapes etc.)where they can see them and if they are hungry they can have a nibble. After a few days he was back to normal
  • 5 days, poor little sausage. i would be worried too.

if he has a sore throat then perhaps he'll eat half an hour or so after having calpol. what happens if you offer him jelly or an ice lolly?

my son had hand, foot and mouth disease recently and it was absolutely awful. i thought he wasn't hungry until i offered him jelly. turns out he was starving hungry but his mouth ulcers hurt too much. i had a 4 month jar of baby food in the cupboard for my nephew so i gave him that and he wolfed it down. he was a lot happier after i started giving him pureed and mashed foods and he started to get better after a few days.

My 18 month old is exactly the same whenever he is ill, goes right off food & takes him a good few days to get back to eating again after the cold, or whatever, seems to have gone. I just let him have his milk & offer food & wait to see if he eats it. I must admit I do put a couple of scoops of baby rice in his milk on these occasions to top him up, it gives me peace of mind, & I try offering food which I know he really likes to try & tempt him.

You know deep down that he won't starve himself, if he is drinking his milk & otherwise seems OK then it is probably nothing serious. I'd say leave an extra bottle for him in case he fancies it/won't sleep & go out as planned. You can always call to see how he is getting on.
