Apple accounts- anyone else find them ridiculous?

I buy my Itunes via a prepay card.

Why oh why does Itunes /Apple want to know so much information about me? I think my bank has less info.

Anyway our computer has died and I have reloaded everything onto another computer and am trying to access my ITunes account to reload my recent purchases and my password is not working.

IFORGOT is meant to send an email to your account and reset p/w.... tried 8 times and it has would not trigger the process....except for one which appeared in the middle of the night and is only valid for 3 hours (my fault for sleeping at 3am)

Apple helpdesk now want:
my DOB,
my credit card no,
my address,
my account id,
my last receipt,
a security question to reset the password (rather than trigger a resend to my email). They seem to think I should hand over all this detailed personal info on an unsecured email, and that I am being awkward for not supplying them with this.

My bank always tells me to not share info like this- so why should I for a pathetic 25quid gift voucher loaded into my ITunes account. Is Apple trying to just hang on to my cash or are they super super security conscious over small amounts of money? I do not want them holding all my details (and as most of it was made up, I'm not sure I can remember what I entered!).

Apple is a company which experiences a high amount of fraud...so they are probably better to be over-cautious then under cautious.

Have they provided you with a phone number to give the details on?

I've always found the password reset works instantly, so it might be a problem with your email software rather then Apple. I forget my password all the time.
