Phone Slammed :(

I had a letter on the 2nd of December saying that they (talk-talk) have had a request from another provider with a request from me to change to them. (The new provider)

So I phoned talk-talk to cancel the request and the lady said it was fine and nothing will change.

Yesterday I woke up and everything had changed! Even my phone number...

So to cut a long story...I've resigned again with talk talk, but it's going to take 5 weeks for an engineer to come out, and then it's 5-7 weeks after the phone is reconnected for the internet to be back up and running.

So 5 weeks for the phone and a possible 3 months for the internet.

Has this happened to anyone else?

    Which company slammed you?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

  • It was Sky. It took me awhile to even find out who it was as I didn't have any paper work or anything. I had to dial the operator to find out who it was.

And sky won't talk to me on the phone as I have no information about the account. I get so far and it doesn't show anything on their system so refuse to continue the call due to data protection.

    Crappy situation :(

Complain to Ofcom and activate the complaints procedure.

    http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/telecoms/sales/mis-selling-fixed-line-services/

Mine you TT should take a share of the blame for not carrying out your instructions. But this does not surprise me.

See the latest news on them. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/12/20/ofcom_q3_complaints_report/
  • I already called Ofcom and that'll take 4 working days for them to look into it or whatever they do.

So 5 weeks for my phone and then up to 12 for the internet! And the !!!!!! thing is my girlfriend lives in America so we can't really talk on the phone over christmas. Just over instant messaging from my mobile.

I was thinking about going with another company but it's still going to take 5 weeks to get an engineer to the exchange.
  • I've heard a lot of negative things about talk talk but never had a problem with them until now.i
  • Talk Talk are in breach of their contract to you. So they need to get this sorted sharpish and you can be very much more aggressive in your stance.

The line provision and broadband can be put back on as a simultaneous provide, so they should go live at about the same time. TT can sort that.

The reinstall can be expedited by the payment of some extra money to Openreach. TT can sort that.

The original contract terms can and must be reinstated, so no new contract or charges. TT can sort that.

And you need some credible compensation not simply for the downtime as such, but for a clear breach of contract. TT can sort that too.
  • Thanks for the reply Mark. What do you think I should do now?
  • Basically, Talk Talk have been shafted by Openreach, or, they failed to act correctly on your instruction and cancel the transfer.

That's why they don't want to cough up any money and would rather fob you off. However despite this probably not being their fault, it makes no odds, and it's up to them to put you back in the position you were in. If they don't like that, they should complain to the regulator who oversees the migration procedure and/or their own supplier.

You should give Talk Talk the opportunity to do exactly that, resurrect the service on the original terms. If they aren't playing ball, you could:

    1. Go elsewhere
    2. Sue them for breach of contract
    3. Go elsewhere, and sue them for breach of contract

Do this in writing. Explain precisely what happened in bullet point format, leave out any emotional verbiage and just state facts. State what you expect, and when by (e.g. 7 days from date of letter/email). If that isn't adhered to, you can then look at the above options.

Seems like Sky have done you a favour by getting you away from TT without any ETC being payable.
