DPD courier

Hi,
Apologies if this is in the wrong place and if so if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great!
I ordered some clothes from new look yesterday morning and paid the £4.95 for next day delivery (so today) as we are away tomorrow and needed the items before then.
I checked my tracking and delivery was expected between 12.20 and 1.20. I have been in all day and spent that time sitting in living room. Our front door is in the living room, we have dogs who bark when someone at door and as we live at the end of a tiny lane which has no through road we are able to see any vehicles that come down here.
Anyway 1.20 came and went so I checked online again only to be informed delivery was attempted but no-one was in and a calling card had been left to rearrange delivery.
I was in. There was no attempted delivery and no calling card has been left.
I have been on their website but the phone numbers are all automated so you can't speak to anyone. I have also phoned newlook who were also unable to get through to DPD. I asked to cancel my order but was told that they would have to wait for items to be returned and then it could take 3 working days (so with xmas this could be a long time before I got my money back) and so they have requested a re-delivery for today but they are unable to guarantee it.
I'm seriously annoyed as I paid for next day delivery for a reason and I've stayed in all day waiting.
Does anyone have a contact no for DPD that will actually allow me to speak to someone and is this usual behaviour from them?!
So annoyed right now as looks like will have to cancel order, go out and rebuy the products in store and then wait an age for the refund - just what you need at xmas!
Sorry for the essay but so bloomin annoyed that their couriers can just lie like this especially when you have paid extra for next day delivery! Grrr
Thanks if you can help with a number

Your local depot maybe listed on here:

New Look are legally obligated to accept your cancellation straight away but do not have to refund for up to 30 days.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
If you just google DPD then your depot town name the telephone number will often come up on 192.com, which is free to use0

I've tried the customer service number in B'ham which I found online but it simply said "we are unable to take your call at the moment. Goodbye" Then it hung up!
Tried the local depot too but it just rang out. Tried again and after ages ringing someone answered who promptly hung up!
Then tried to rearrange delivery online for tomorrow but need to have a ref number from the calling card which of course I don't have as they never actually tried to deliver. So have just phoned new look back again and cancelled the order. Won't get my refund until Jan though but hey ho. Don't think I'll be using new look again if they still use DPD though0 -

I had exactly the same problem dpd said they tried to deliver and I wasn't in and they left a card. House of Fraser were very good gave me the tracking number managed to fight the automated system and planned redelivery didn't turn up and now they say it's lost. I wasted a lot of time calling and being lied to on numerous occasions and it was all a cover up because they had lost it and weren't expecting so many parcels !!! You have to teach them they can't teach people like this. I have had compensation from House of Fraser and DPD have told them they will be refunding the cost of my calls :T0
