    I think I'm right in saying that Royal Mail no longer open mail to return it if there is no return address on the outside of the envelope. Worth bearing in mind when you send your own mail.

    It might be illegal opening other people's mail but if you can't stop it arriving and you can't return it, finding out where it's coming from by opening it is pretty much your only option!

    The Royal Mail website ( http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=19100180&mediaId=19100258 ) gives the following advice:

    "If there’s no return address: just strike through your address, write “not known at this address” and re-post it, or hand it to whoever delivers your post. "

    debt collection agencies take no notice of letters returned "not known at this address" as they assume is the person who owes them money playing games !

    Tell enough creditors and they should be put on the GAIN register (Gone Away Information Network) so other companies can find out they've moved on.
