Hi All,
My partner will be working in Qatar for while and I have a couple of questions:
1. Best way of converting Qatari Riyals to UK sterling
2. What is the best international bank account to open, so that the money can be transferred and access from anywhere in the world, but needs to be held as UK sterling.
3. How long do you need to work outside the EU in order not to pay any Tax on the income.
Thanks in advance.

HSBC can do this for you. If you have an account in the UK, they can open one in Qatar and/or offshore (i.e. Jersey if needed).
Their internet banking has something called 'Global View' which makes it easy to transfer amounts between different countries/currencies.

As gt94 has said, best thing for your partner is to open a HSBC account bank account in UK (if not already open) before they leave and once he/she has got their Qatari residency, open a HSBC Advance current account in Qatar. Once their internet banking is set up in Qatar, simply add their UK HSBC account in 'Global View' (will need the UK secure key though) and then your partner can transfer money instantly between their HSBC accounts. I have the same setup between my HSBC Advance account in Dubai and in UK - very attractive exchange rates (less than 0.1% commission) and only 26 AED for transfers irrespective of amount.0
