Creda storage heaters help please !!!

Options
Hello there,

Me and my girlfriend live in a one bedroomed flat which only has Creda storage heaters.

There's 2 in the living room and one in the hall but we only use one in the living room, usually the rest of the flat is cold in the colder months but the living room is always toasty.

I usually switch the heater on (plug at the wall) around 11pm - Midnight with the input at 6 and output at 1 and switch it off in the morning around 8am and it's always nice when I come in from work and the rest of the night.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any tips / experience of the best ways to use these storage heaters because they do cost a fortune to run and can fairly see the money coming off the top-up electricity meter each week.

Am I doing this the right way?

Is there anything else I can do to save money?

Is there a better way that you know of to run these heaters for better efficiency?

Any feedback is much appreciated on this subject,

Thanks alot,

Sean.

  • Hi,

you don't need to switch them on/off, night/day, as once they are on they are controlled by a time switch, usually 11/12 - 7/8am, unless you get an afternoon boost which don't want to use.

I would shut the output down to 0, as it will help keep heat in overnight, when I presume you are sleeping, and only open it in the evening if needing a bit more heat, remembering to shut it down at bed time.

The input can be adjusted depending on the ambient temperature.
  • Thanks for the reply & info,

So I should just leave the power switch left ON at all times as there is a timer switch inside which starts / shuts off at certain times?

Thats what I wasnt sure about, If the power switch is left on during the day does it use alot more electricity from my pre-pay meter?
  • Hi,

yes I switch mine on when weather starts getting cold, and that's them until the summer, I adjust the input up/down if weather gets colder/warmer.

Your time switch is either controlled within the meter, or you will have a mechanical one, it will be next the meter.

If you are on E7 you will not use any power for your heaters during the day, but, if you are on a set upthat gives you an afternoon boost it will still be at the cheaper rate.

    Have a read of this.
  • Okay that's great, thank you

And thanks for that link, It was most helpful,

    Sean.
