We bought a bed from Argos approximately 7-8 months ago. Within the 1st month the springs were poking through the mattress, we contacted Argos and they replaced the mattress. This has happen a further 2 times Argos replacing the mattress. When it happened for the 4th time:mad: we told Argos we didn't want the bed we would like our money back. They told us that they don't have to refund us, they will give us the money back for the mattress as a gesture of good will but they don't have to take the base back!!! surely if the bed was bought as a complete unit they have to take it all back. This has gone on and on. Does anybody out there know our rights. Do we have to keep the base?

If it was bought all as one package then if one part is faulty then the entire thing is faulty.
PS. I have the same issues and thought it was me, just got a quite expensive matress 1 month ago to replace one where the springs are poking through, and already the springs are starting to poke through0 -
If you have no issue with the base and you like it, why not just accept the refund for the mattress and buy a replacement from somewhere else, after all they are standard sizes?
I know this doesn't answer your question, I'm just intrigued as to why you would want the hassle of buying a whole new bed."We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0 -
As legally you have no right to a refund, the offer of a refund on the mattress is quite a good one. They could just keep on replacing the mattress, after all why refund the whole bed, have they been replacing the whole bed?
Your getting whats know as a part refund. Which I think is legal.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

As it was sold as a whole unit then the whole unit is deemed faulty
so if you purchased a new car and the engine blew up , so the dealer said its just the engine we will refund you for the engine only, would you be happy i dare say NO as a car is no good without an engine the same as a bed is no good without a mattress, especially if purchased as a package.0 -

I understand your point, but it isn't exactly comparing like for like.
Argos could just continually replace the mattress, but they have offered a refund for the value instead.
OP can just buy a new mattress from somewhere else and be done with it.
I suppose it goes back to my original question - why would you even want the base replacing, I assume OP likes it, and there is nothing wrong with it.
If OP has decided they don't like the base then by all means, make Argos refund the whole thing, I think they would have to."We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0 -
OP, when you say you got it as a package do you mean you bought the two items as part of a deal (for example, buy this bed and get this mattress half price)? If so then you'll probably find they're listed as individual items in the catalogue too?
If so then realistically they ARE two separate things - bed frame and mattress - and it's the latter that's at fault. The bed frame itself is a standard sized frame which fulfils it's purpose.
If the mattress would ONLY fit that frame then i'd think you'd have more weight behind your argument, however Argos are offering to replace or refund the item that's faulty!0 -

If the company were only replacing the engine as a justure of good will, then you would be correct.
But as it stands Argos are NOT admitting that the bed or mattress is faulty. So I think in this case a part refund is fair and legal.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

....for the record 'justure' should be a word.0 -
