Given that most insurers only recognise up to 5 years NCD it isnt as bad a drop as it sounds.

I remember that my back of a fag packet calculations showed that as long as you have a fault claim less than every 3 years it is cheaper to not have NCD protection and just take the hit after a fault claim than to pay the extra for NCD protection. Of cause this will vary for different people and it ultimately is just another insurance policy so comes down to your general appetite for risk
