Leather shoes weather protection/conditioning

Options
Hi all,

Ive recently bought a nice pair of leather boots. To condition them for the rainy weather and puddle jumping, I've sprayed copious amounts of Clark's leather protector.

Since then, I've read up on how best to condition leather shoes and its unanimously the beeswax/mink oil sort of leather conditioner. Typically housed in little tubs, you rub this waxy substance into the leather - I found this video useful for those interested in doing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9mCn4HbZDE&feature=player_embedded

In hindsight, I should have just gone straight for the wax...
My question is: since I've sprayed a lot of the protector on, can I just rub this wax on top? Or should I somehow clean the leather boots and then wax?

Any leather experts here? Thanks for any input :D
