It's simply another signal that home ownership in the long term is one of the best ways to ensure future financial security. Nothing to do with bulls, bears, winners, losers or disrespecting renters.
I don't think we need any more signals that home ownership is a good idea for future financial security, I think that's a given (although some characters, especially landlords, do seem to like to "stick the knife in" to those who don't own their own home).
What we do need is debate/action on a longer term solution to helping as many people to own their own homes, and to prevent the UK property market getting greater influence on the wider economy.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Totally agree Dervprof. If the policy makers could try to keep house prices stable in the short, medium and long term and try to prevent these bubbles it would benefit almost everyone bar property investors.
We need to instill a culture in this country that stops people seeing property as an investment.0 -

Indeed.
The worship of property (and HPI) reminds me of the accident claim culture. Too many people trying to get something for nothing. Seems like a good idea, but everyone ends up paying to some degree.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

Touch dramatic?
Why not just lobby politicians to build more houses and tell Nimby's to shove it up their a**es?0 -

I know; just not worth the effort is it? What's the point? They've all got it in for us haven't they?0 -

Not so much I would say they've got it in for us, more let's look after number one and don't give a sh*t about the greater good.0 -

I was thinking the same thing. Their attitude seems to be "B****r you jack, I'm alright".30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -
What did you do Daddy when all those VI's and Nimby's looked after themselves and stuck two fingers up at everyone else?
Nothing son; what could we do? It just wasn't worth it. Had a good moan on the internet though.0 -
