'Parked outside of marked bays' ticket - £85!!!! Help!

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Today (19th December 2011) I went Christmas shopping at a large retail park which I won't name just yet.

When I parked up after ten minutes of looking for a space, the car to our left was slightly over his line and at an angle with his front significantly in our bay, but since my car (DS3) is relatively small and there was space on our right, I parked up anyway. My car was subsequently about a foot over the bay line, just as was the car to our left, but since there was still enough space for another vehicle in the bay to my right, I didn't think too much of it.

Came back after about half an hour and stuck to the windscreen was an £85 Penalty Charge Notice for being 'Parked outside of marked bays'! £85 pounds! For being a less than a foot outside the bay! And as the car to our left that had forced us to park like that had moved, it made me look like I had parked like that just for a laugh! No attendants in sight and being due for a family meal, I regrettably decided to leave without taken any photos or asking for witnesses!

They say it would only be £70 if i pay within two weeks but I really think that is a ridiculous sum of money!

As an aside, the car is registered to my dad and I really don't want him to be bothered with threatening letters since he is currently recovering from his first round of chemo. Any chance of avoiding that?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Josh

You say you were ticketed in a retail park - Yet you say you got a "Penalty Charge Notice" ? Is this a council issued ticket?

The only answer is to ignore them, even if you wrote and said chase you for the money when you ignore them they would revert back to the registered keeper!

Assuming this is a private car park (the £70 ticket suggests this) :-

The only way to avoid the letters is to write and tell them that the registered keeper (your dad ) was not driving and you were , so all letters should come to you .

    Then you ignore the letters.

Are you SURE it says " Penalty Charge Notice" ..because if this is a private car park that is very much a no no and they would be foolish in the extreme to try court ..they have no legal right to issue Penalties as a private company, so they can't win in court.

Sorry, you are right - it says 'Contractual parking charge notice' and is a G24 Ltd notice

Apologies - really am not in the right frame of mind to be writing anything.

Right - G24 are jokers and well discussed here already. Just ignore them and impress on your dad that their letters are nothing more than toilet paper.

Look them up on this thread so he knows what to expect:

It's 'only' G24 (a rubbish, well known private firm) and for some reason you thought it was a real fine? Oh dear, look at it more closely, it's not even a parking ticket. Any private parking charge = SCAM!

You only have to search here or Google 'G24 fake PCN' or similar keywords to learn it's a bogus PCN; a con like any other private 'ticket'.

You only have to read the stickies at the top of this forum to learn more. Watch the Watchdog video linked on the sticky called 'welcome, please read before posting' and look at the top thread of pictures 'PPC letters, what to expect'.

Please read the stickies and watch that Watchdog link. And have a Happy Christmas!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
