The issue is that if buyer claims non delivery unless a signature is viewable online then they will win a paypal chargeback. But, if Royal Mail say they can show it was delivered but just not show the signature (which is not uncommon) then even though paypal will refund the buyer the OP will not be able to make a claim with Royal Mail. In those circumstances RM will apologise profusely and refund the 'tracked' element of the postage paid.
The price as far as I checked was £2.12 for airmail, plus £5.30 for airsure and £2.50 for up to £500 insurance..0 -
I'm still confused as RM website says they will pay on insurance for Airsure if item is lost. I'm not arguing just want a little clarity as it's a service I'll probably be using myself in the new year. So if it remains untracked then they should pay up. As I said I don't know so how does the claim system work and are the details on the website wrong?

It all lies in whether Royal Mail (or foreign postal service) know it has been delivered because their own tracking says so- but are not able due to a variety of reasons to show a signature online.
Items up to £150 might be worth the risk as paypal will accept a tracked delivery showing item has been received - but do not require a signature to be available.
It is catch 22 though if RM say that the overseas tracking shows delivery but not a signature- so they will not pay out, yet paypal say that is insufficient unless the sig is viewable online.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I usually use Fedex Express for items like this and have sent to US, Australia, Switzerland in recent months and the service has been good, albeit expensive. Around £30 per 1kg package, but its fully tracked.0

I have just spoken with Fedex and they are quoting me £67.27. Any other ideas ?
DHL are even more expensive, £74.77
Just spoken with Royal Mail and they say the Airsure is an end to end tracked service. It will cost £5.30 airsure cost, £2.50 extra compensation to £500 and then the normal airmail posting cost. The price finder is still not working, so guessing that the total cost will be about £15.You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
you can prob get the fed ex /dhl through one of the sites like parcelmonkey , parcels2go and so on , theyre cheaper than going direct as they have alot of parcels compared to joe public0

www.interparcel.com would be £20.70 with FEDEX, plus insurance (based on a 20*15*10 parcel weighing <1kg)
Those are almost exactly the measurements I gave to Fedex, but they quoted me £67.29. How can it be so much cheaper through interparcel ?You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
I did a price search earlier with transglobal express based on the weight you stated(rounded up to 1 kg), £600 insurance and a 'guesstimate' of dimensions and the cheapest price that came up was indeed with fed ex and it came in at £20 something (can't remember exact figure) Fully tracked/insured.signed for.
As already mentioned try one of the online services (there are lots) you will certainly get it cheaper than going direct to any of the big players.0 -
