Soundbar connectivity

I'm interested in buying this sound bar

The spec says that it has HDMI input; however the only digital audio out my TV (LG LD490) seems to have, is an optical connector. Can someone please tell me if I can connect this soundbar to my tv using the hdmi cable as I'm not sure that I can. Failing that, perhaps someone can recommend a soundbar with an optical audio input.

It has two HDMI ports - it will have an IN and an OUT - so if you have a sky box/Virgin/Freeview HDMI you would put the HDMI cable from that box into the back of the SL50 and then from the SL50 into the TV.

Sorry - don't quite understand. The spec of the SL50 says that it has only 1 HDMI input, so I don't understand how I can connect 2 HDMI's to it. Can you please explain further. PS I also have sky HD box

Have a look at page E-3.

It has one HDMI input port and one output port.

HDMI out from your Sky Digital (if it has HDMI out) to the sound bar and another HDMI cable from the output of the sound bar to your TV.

Check the TV also has HDMI.

If you want to run another device through the sound bar such as a games console or DVD player, you can either loop through or use the analogue input (marked 8 in the manual).

lindabea - the soundbar you're looking at, as has been said above, is more for people using an external box, like Sky, which will plug into the soundbar via HDMI, then the picture will be passed on to the TV via HDMI.
You've identified that your TV has an optical output (make sure it's an output!) - so you need to find a soundbar with digital IN.
