Hi All,
I have just been quoted for my first kitchen and am in need of advice.
The quote is with a company called bettaliving and hyave quoted me for a fitted kitchen, £6700. Fitting is £2200.
My kitchen is quite small 2m * 4m. quote inclues new hob, cooker, dishwasher, sink and taps.
Can anyone give me an idea of if this a good price or not as i have never done this before.
Cheers
Tim

I suspect even the knowlegeable people here will say they cannot answer. The cost will depend on the type of units, number of units, accessories (pull out larder etc), doors, and the brand and model of cooker etc. And fitting costs depend on the unit type (flat pack costs more), and amount of work involved e.g. extra plumbing, wiring etc.
Perhaps if you provide more detailed information, one of the knowledgeable people will help. But to me £2200 seems a lot for fitting if it is just fitting units, and cooker etc. You might wish to go to the Magnet web site, as they give you a ballpark figure for various designs and sizes of kitchen.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
I have nothing against the firm you mention however their selling technique is based upon selling their kitchens/bedrooms based upon your taking out a finance agreement to purchase. Often they will tempt you with a deal which sounds fabulous as they break it down to a low weekly payment but look at the small print/APR. If you need finance they are worth considering but bear in mind they do not use their own fitters and their salesmen are only commision paid. I would suggest looking at least one other firm to get a comparison price.0

I run a maintenance company and fit kitchens.
I did some (non kitchen fitting work) for a lady who had used betterliving to fit her kitchen including tiling and laying of laminate floor.
I've never seen such poor workmanship in my life. The tiles looked like a relief map of the himalayas, no tile edging trim was used and the grey adhesive was showing through the white grout, which ws still all over the tiles. The laminate flooring was 'doming' in the middle and the scotia beading was not attached by using a nail gun, but by using plasterboard screws. it was awful.
Also remember, they don't include removal of rubbish, removing old tiles etc. The figure you have been quoted will soon start to rise.
You will be better off getting a local carpenter or independent kitchen fitter to do a supply and fit and souice units from Howdens, benchmarx or Magnet Trade.
A basic hob, extractor and oven pack can be sourced for less that £300 and the sink and taps for less than £100. I'm guessing you have no more than 12 or 13 units, which makes it a very very expensive kitchen.
Don't use them.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Where abouts are you based? Some one on here may be able to recommend a good fitter.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I've got to agree with phill99, you can get a LOT betta than bettaliving...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Betta living is direct sales and come with all risks and rewards of that type of sales organisation.

Hi
I agree with Phill99, Meeps and kmdesign.
I am sure you will be able to find a good honest local firm to look after you.

i have posted this before.....
I am not a kitchen fitter, but over the years i have picked up other skills while plastering.
A lady i know got me to skim her empty kitchen shell. She was ok with not having a kitchen for a bit. She went to magnet, wickes b n q etc and got quotes for kitchens. 12000 to around 10000. NOT including fitting.
I explained to her that she can buy the stuff on her own and get it fitted. So i took her in my van, we got all the cupboards, appliances, worktops etc..for less than half the price. ( she then got more expensive fridge and dishwasher as she saved so much ) Then paid me and a joiner ( not a man and a saw ) to fit it. Two days later she had saved herself £5000, and had a brilliant kitchen.
I would shop aroud, but if your appy with the price of the kitchen, buy it, but get a joiner/litchen fitter local to fit it. Bet you its £500 not £2200!
Your price is £8900 fitted....i reckon you could get that down to £3000 easily.0
