Stud wall - sound insulation

Options
I'm putting up a stud wall (simple 4x2 frame with pb) and would like to sound insulate it somehow. It replaces an older stud wall (which had to ripped down in order to replace a floor) which wasn't particularly effective at keeping sounds in/out. I've seen various Kingspan type products which can sit between the 4x2s, but these cost about £40 a sheet. Anybody got any ideas on a cheaper product which is still effective at sound insulating?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Comments

  • Kingspan, or any foil faced board is no good for sound insulation

You need "Rockwool" quilt - 50mm would be good , or better still 100mm total fill
  • Use "sounbloc" blue plasterboards - for really good sounproofing double them up both sides of partition for maximum efect.
When you double them up cross the second layer over the first joint if that makes sence!?! as in where the 1st boards join put the second layer smack over the middle of the joint.

Agree with above about insulation - should be rockwool
