HSBC uphold PPI complaint but want statements...

which I don't have as the PPI was from 1991 to 2003 and I only have my accounts for the last 6 years.
I know what the interest rates were over the period, but not the exact amount that was owed.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there anything I can do, please?

I have searched, but I can't find anything, surely I'm not unique in this situation?

Its a common problem with older cases where both the bank and you have destroyed records. In most cases, they will only pay out what can be evidenced from the records (supplied by you or them). There have been the odd cases where a goodwill payment has been given as an estimate but that is not the norm.

Do banks all destroy all records after 6 years, as I am still a live customer with the company and as such, surely they will still have all my records since 1984?
