Hi,
I need to travel from London to Plymouth on Sat March 17th to attend a University Open Day, and also return back to London on the same day.
Does anyone know what the cheapest way to get there is?

Megatrain to Exeter and pay the single to Plymouth on the train, usually ~£5
07:10 Depart London Waterloo
Arrive Exeter St. Davids 10:30 1 seat = £8.00
18:14 Depart Exeter Central
Arrive London Waterloo 22:04 1 seat = £5.00
Do the opposite for your return journey and the whole lot should be under £25.
I'm currently at Plymouth and travel from Bedford, when I looked at open days I remember Plymouth had a good travel offer, they gave £30 for travel and £50 for a hotel if you lived far away, and it’s definitely worth checking if they will pay for it.0 -
Hi, thanks for your reply. I had a look at megatrain- unfortunately the trains don't run over the weekend. I did find an alternative which cost £13.00 each way i.e £26.00 return. Do you think this is reasonable?
Could you explain to me a little more about Plymouth offering to pay for the cost of travelling down to see them- is that what you meant?
Many thanks for your reply!0 -
You wount get better than £26 return so book that ASAP, I got the information when I requested the prospectus but this was 4 years ago. If there is nothing on the website its worth giving them an e-mail or something just incase it isnt as well advertised. It's possible this isn't offered anymore but I remember there used to be a £30 travel allowance and £50 accommodation, if you do get free accommodation the Copthorne 4* is just next to campus and usually does £59 deals on rooms for students.0

You could try National Express - it might take a long time but if you book in advance they do fares from £1...0

You can't do it via megabus unless you come back the next day. It might be cheaper in the long run to do that and get a cheap B&B.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
