Male dog with sore nipples!

I have booked my dog into the vets on Wednesday as he has really sore looking nipples (really red around the bottom of the nipples x2). He has been castrated and is fit and healthy, he is acting as normal still eating and drinking. He is 3 years old Lab cross. He is licking it, which seems to make it worse. He only seems to lick it when he's cleaning himself. Does anyone know what this might be? Is there anything I could put on it like antiseptic cream or should I bathe it? Just want to make him more comfortable. Thanks in advance

Is it just the one? I wonder if he's been bitten by something.

You could try cleaning it with a little sterile water (rock salt & boiling water - then leave to cool) to see if that helps. I wouldn't put any human creams on as he may well just lick them off.

Thanks for the advice, will do that its two nipples one either side of his bits.

Boy cats have them as well. I think that they are like us in that human embryos follow a female template until the male genes kick in.
