How to get rid of match.com ads on email

PLEASE HELP - have just opened BTYahoo email and nearly half my screen is suddenly filled with a rolling rogues Gallery from Match.com, asking me to choose from Single men in my area.

I cannot find any way to get rid of it.

In case there was a conventional closure 'x' somehow hidden in top right corner, I hit there, but instead had a whole new page pop up.

Where on earth has this unwanted intrusive garbage come from?

I have already done all the things for stopping advts that are available.

Thankyou in advance for any further help.

    Nonsense.

If you're using Firefox or Chrome then install the Adblock Plus extension. If you're using Internet Explorer you could try this one http://adblockie.codeplex.com/ but I've no experience of that one

    Myabe, maybe not.

I also use Yahoo mail: there is a panel on the right side of the screen that shows a selection of advertisements, based on the sites I have visited over the previous week. And I do often see young ladies from Match.com. I am sure that this is not malware, but simply the way in which Yahoo earns money to cover the cost of providing an email service.

Yes voyager, 'the way in which Yahoo earns money to cover the cost of providing an email service.' is what one reads when effecting Adblock Plus - and I can assure you I[OAP]have cruised nothing to prompt this.

I update all these blocks every month or so. This invader was much larger than the usual type, which I, too, put up with.
At least hotmail has a 'close ad' option, lower right.
    Thankyou all.

Possible solution if still an option in Yahoo

First of all you need to login in to your Yahoo mail and click My Account, which is basically at the top. You will be redirected to another page where you will be allowed to change quite a lot of important Yahoo Account settings. Then click edit in your Member Information, where you will be transferred to change your member details. Click your current Preferred Content and then you will be redirected to another page again to change the settings. And in the new settings drop down, choose Yahoo! Singapore. Congratulations you just removed the ads. Now go to you yahoo mail (www.yahoomail.com) and login, you will now see that the ads have been removed except the one at the Home tab (its a small one).
  • The latest version of AdBlockPlus has an option to allow "non-intrusive" ads which is set to "allow" by default, but the filter still needs fine tuning. Make sure you haven't been updated without noticing.

You can untick the allow radio button under Filter Preferences, but read the Read More link beforehand to understand why they've done it.

But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

  • You can also add any domain name you like, to your computer hosts file - meaning you will never see another ad from that domain again.

You can also download a pre loaded hosts file which is already set to block ads from the most common culprits. A longer solution yes, but then you don't need to clog your computer up with more software that is not really needed.

it's probably NOT an add just SPAM email.

what did the email say? something like "someone in your area tagged your picture"?
If YES then it's SPAM! you don't need to open it to delete it. AdBlockj Plus and alike won't stop those emails, only Yahoo's spam filter will stop these, then you need to train it by marking them as SPAM. (though they should know what is spam,)

It certainly wasn't a spam em. It's not email - rolls like cin! credits down r/h half of screen, 3 pics across, each pic 5x7cm with details and other blah.
dogmary and white christmas - thankyou especially. The Singapore solution[apart from sounding like an airport read] is intriguing. I'll try these as I have also noticed soundtracks suddenly booming for ykw from gkw . . . .some US casino sites/free betting, again a definite PAS MOI!
    Thankyou all once again.
