                    Hi there
We were declared bankrupt in 2006 and since then have rented privately.
Our LL unfortunately lives next door and since retiring has too much time on their hands and for the first time after living here peacefully for 5 years, we're experiencing issues i.e. Landlord letting themselves in without prior permission, billing us for silly things (agent agrees).
So, we are looking to move in the New Year. We both work full time and earn £50k joint, and have never missed a rent payment but we obviously still have the bankruptcy on our records.
Do you think we're going to experience issues finding another property for a letting agent?
Thanks for your thoughts.

If the agent agrees that the landlord is being unreasonable why don't you ask him to sort out a new property for you? He knows your payment record so can recommend you to another landlord.
There is always the route of changing the locks to keep the landlord out of course.
Your old bankruptcy will always make people look carefully but, if you have your life sorted out now, stop worrying.0

            Hi,
The Bankruptcy should only show on your credit files for 6 years from the date the order was made.
So for example if you were declared bankrupt in January 2006 then by Febuary 2012 your credit files should not show a record of this.
Do not lie if asked about any previous bankruptcy, but once the bankruptcy has dropped off your files then maybe dont offer the information if not asked0

Letting himself in? Write a letter making clear you'd like pre-agreement before he comes round for inspections etc, then change the locks.
Billing silly things? Ignore the bills!0

As well as the six-year drop off deadline, time is a great healer in bankruptcy.
I don't anticipate you will have any problems renting another property.
You have a decent income and may even be able to get a mortgage, if that's what you want to do.0

In similar circumstances I would sit tight in the property and wait until the BR had dropped off my credit-records.
There are ways and means to deal with the illegal entry to your home and the billing for "silly things" if you want help with that in the meantime. Entirely depends on exactly what these "silly things" are. If the old sod lived next door to me I'd have changed the barrel of the lock some time ago.0
