See here to get a Vista Home \Premium Upgrade 'Academic' version for £57. Rather a good deal considering the retail is around 3 times I think. Whether or not it will make your essays any better, I can't say. :P

If you study Computer Science or IT, ask your department if they are part of the MSDN Academic Alliance - this will entitle you to a free copy of Windows Vista (or Windows XP), as well as free copies of Visual Studio, some other software, and complete access to their Developers Repository which includes lots of tutorials and code examples.0

or, you could stick with what you have at the moment until vista has more support for free0
-
we can get it at our university for just £45

this might sound a bit stupid
but i have 2 pcs and a laptop, could i install this on them all?0 -
No, not really...!
However, the MSDNAA version is the 'Business' one, with no Media features, etc, so it may not of much use to many people.

True - but I never use the Windows Media features anyway, there is better (in my opinion) third party software.0 -
Yes, just depends if you want the Media Center extensions (i.e. for use with XBox 360, etc).
I know I'd want the Media Extender capabilties.

Is this like the "Student" edition of Office, which you can get even if you just have kids at school, or do you have to be at Uni?0
