Are work xmas parties (and bonus) dead?

Sorry I think you have missed the point of the thread. We all realise employers do not have to give anything at Xmas.
Have your employers contributed any xmas cheer to yourself?
I will get a small token bonus.
My point was you are moaning about not getting even a card from them yet employment is a contract between two persons/organisations and why should you be recognised (yes its nice but as long as you are keeping your contract then there is no need to etc) but have you recognised the employment opportunity that the company have given you?
I'm just saying that it works both ways. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

I recognise the employment opportunity by turning up to work each day, no sick days off, and doing my job well, for pay that is not great. On the basis that my manager earns more than double I do, an makes my life difficult all year round by expecting me to do his job as well as my own, constantly takes credit for my work etc, I shan't be offering him a christmas present, no. He will get a xmas card though.
Absolutely, It does work both ways. On the basis that they are offering you a token bonus, will you be offering your boss a christmas present?
I think companys these days are not really bothered about 'goodwill' to employers etc. Or even a pat on the back when you have earned the company 50k in a day would be nice, but no.The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -

Did you ask for the refund? What did they say was the reason? What happened to the pile of £20s in the end? :eek:0 -
my firm used to dont have anymore to much tension between the engineers and the office staff basically we don get on engineers have had 3 pay cuts in the last 3 years and the office staff have had 1 and still get their crimbo bonus
even if the offered us a crimbo party me aswell as all the other lads on tools would tell them to shove it0 -
our christmas party was yesterday. and my friend has a present from my ex employer which she collected for me.Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

I think some companies are worried about the legal implications - there've been cases where employees have sued for sexual harrassment etc by drunk fellow employees at company organised Christmas parties...
At our place they give us an expense allowance for £25 each and we organise our own parties.0 -
In my old family run firm we had brilliant christmas parties normally a night away in a hotel with meal and disco, one year we were taken to Belgium, partners included, and a generous xmas bonus. In my current job we still have a party, this friday just gone in a nightclub in Soho nibbles and drink included till 11.30 pm, after this time club was open to general public, no bonus though, card or present but never expected one.0

We've already had 2 paid for nights out in the last month just for our department and got a £200 (taxable) bonus.
This is an international company, with only 1,000 staff in the UK.0 -
