Should I wait for the January sales?

Options
Hi all, Ive finally been paid for a job ive been doing for ages and can now afford to sort out the following: 2nd hand fridge freezer, new/2nd hand cheap tom tom, get ps3 ylod fixed, buy new middle of the range PC and Laptop/tablet (they are dead).:T

We were going to get it all done for Xmas and have ourselves a very lovely Xmas, the Mrs however mentioned that it would make more sense to wait until the january sales and save/get a lot more for our money, others have said that some people have started their sales already and that it doesnt matter.

So what I would like to know is would it be better to wait or to just get everything sorted now?

Thanks:)

You might save a bit if you wait until January but I reckon the January sales are a bit of a myth... usually its just a way to sell old end-of-line stuff to make way for new stuff. If you're canny and do your research you can always pick up items at a good price, and before Christmas isn't a bad time at all as the shops are competing for your money. For instance, I've seen some cracking laptop deals recently. And a second hand fridge freezer is always gonna be cheap off preloved (and people are trying to flog things to get some Chrimbo money right now)... we got a massive Philips F/F for £80 - it is like new and would have cost £400 new! Also picked up about £3k's worth of M&S Sofas and a Futon Company futon for £250 off there.

In short: bargains can be had any time of year, and January sales are often not all they're cracked up to be. If you shop around and don't jump into anything then there is no reason you can't get a decent deal now.
  • Nice one,

just a quick update I nearly went to buy a fridge freezer today but thought I may as well take a look at mine 1st as the fridge works great but the freezer seems to half freeze stuff. I took the drawers out then noticed that the back of it was frozen up and covered in ice (the kids kept leaving it ajar, I thought they must have burned the motor out however it appears that as moisture was getting in it was condensing and turning to ice all over the cooling element making it really inefficient), I removed the ice and found that it was indeed obstructing the cooling element at the back, result! im defrosting it right now and I have a really good feeling it will work tomorrow (fingers crossed).

This will seem painfully obvious to some of you but I didnt have a clue as I imagine neither will some of the other people reading this thread so I just thought I would do my bit and post this in the hope that I may just save another young familly £150 or so on a second hand fridge freezer.

I wonder how many freezers have gone to the dump when all they needed was a good defrosting!

  • Also remember that the majority of Fridge Freezers have no seperate theromstat for the freezer compartment. So it just runs when the fridge is too warm, so if you got your fridge set to quite a warmish temperature, the freezer barely runs.

Try getting a fridge thermometer and seeing what setting you need on the fridge dial to get a 3-4 degree temp in the fridge. That plus defrosting might cure all your problems.
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%

  • I reckon as long as your getting yourself a good deal get it done for Xmas and really enjoy your day.
I saw a sat nav which looked pretty good the other day for £50. Cant for the life of me remember but have a look about and Im sure you will find it.
  • Sat nav is on the tescos website. Looks pretty snazzy to. Think I may update my 8 year old one.
    Happy Xmas
