But if she increased her hours she will qualify for child care help so wouldnt need anyone to look after baby. What were her hours before she went on maternity leave?

I'm glad someone can see my logic!

OP, how many hours is she intending to work that would mean she only earns £100 a month, and how many was she working before?

If she works nights while he works days when do you propose she would sleep?

If she has paid sufficient national insurance contributions pre maternity she may qualify for contribution based JSA for up to 6 months which isn't means tested. I believe that after that the JSA would finish due to your income. She would have to say she was willing to work 40hrs a week I think although I wouldn't worry too much about them actually finding her a job as they generally arent too good at that!

Thank you someone can see our problem, especial with the sleep side of things. Thanks.

Good idea, but have actually looked at the state this country is in!!!! how many people are unemployed!
We have looked into an evening or night job, but there isn't many evening jobs around our way at the moment. As the missus say's how is she supposed to work all night and then look after the baby all day as well.

the same way single parents do when they have to work and look after a baby. its amazing what you can do if you stop making excuses and just try. yes i have seen the state of the country, and i know there are jobs out there for people who look.
Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

She was only contracted to 6 hours a week before our baby was born and her current employer was good enough to take her back after she left to start a career in home care. But she would not have been able to continue that job whilst pregnant, doing 14 hour a day, 12 days in a row and cycling! so her current employer took her back out of the kindness of his heart.

You should get more than £40 a month CTC. About £140pm on £21200 joint. Is it currently based on last year's income? If so you can ask them to base it on an estimate for this tax year's earnings.

So she is experienced in care work? If so, there is plenty of work out there. There is absolutely no reason why she cannot work sixteen hours, 6 - 10pm shifts or overnight sleep ins would seem suitable?

she doesn't need to do a full nightshift! a few evenings a week from 6-10pm or something over the weekend would be manageable surely?

A friend of mine was in a similar postition and she decided to become a childminder herself, she was able to look after her own child and was paid to look after other peoples children. I'm not sure what sort of courses one would have to do to get into this area though, I could ask if you're interested.
