I had two delivery attempts recently for a package sent as a gift. I wasn't in, but not too worried as I live 2 mins away from the depot. I went there on Saturday to pick it up. I walked in to a queue of 20 people. I waited 1 1/2 hours to be told that they couldn't find it. One lady had been there for 2 hours and needed hers for her holiday and said she wan't leaving without it. One had driven 45 mins to this depot and they found 2 of 3 of her packages. Two people had waited in the day before but no driver turned up! I would say that 1 in 4 people got their parcels.

Its best to call in advance and then they can get your parcel ready for you.If you just turn up and expect the staff to go hunting through thousands of parcels then you will be in for a long wait.Especially as there were 20 people in front of you all wanting the same thing doing.0

Makes pretty much no difference if you still have to wait 90 minutes to get to the front of the queue though...0 -

But if everybody did it then you wouldn't be waiting 90 minutes to get to the front.
(Although whether they'd answer the phone or find the parcel before you arrived if you did should be in question)0 -

If all those 20 had rung in, their parcels would be ready and it would take more like 10-15minutes.0 -

I very much doubt it. In my experience most depots they won't pre look out parcels as otherwise they will end up with loads waiting and no guarantee the people would turn up. Its not difficult to have an efficient filing system so that it doesn't take long to look out parcels when the customer turns up. Most courier firms manage this with little problems.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

Well in my experience (which with all due respect is probably a lot more than yours), our depot does find the parcels when people call in advance and exactly how would you file parcels ranging in size from a pack of batteries to a 42" tv?
If there are several thousand parcels in the depot, they take some finding, especially as they won't have a position dedicated to this and it will have to fit around whoever does its' real job.
Far far better to have people ring in and allow time for the parcel to be found than just turn up and expect it to be ready waiting.0 -
Courier companies get busy at Christmas FACT , if it's imperative you have ASAP it either buy it early or go to a real shop or even have it delivered where there is someone in. In an ideal world every driver would drop each parcel off and there would be no issues I am sure they don't really enjoy having a depot full of parcels and a queue of impatient miserable people just before Christmas.0

City Link were supposed to deliver a parcel to me on Saturday. I stayed in all day waiting. Finally I checked the tracking of the parcel, to be informed that they'd tried to deliver, there was no-one home and that they'd left a card. Absolute rot! No delivery attempted, no card. Very annoying.[0

I have to say I have a very positive opinion of City Link. Our local driver will move heaven and earth to make deliveries. We have his phone number and he will deliver to any address that is convenient for us. I suppose it depends on individual drivers but we ended up giving ours a nice christmas tip as he has made our lives so much easier over the last few months.
Any courier will have problems at this time of year but for me City Link are definitely one of the best. I would also include DPD in that0 -
I did phone up so that put that in your pipe and smoke it! They couldn't find anyone's parcels or spare a person to search for mine though I had phoned for collection.0
