media sound on laptop

Hi I cannot hear audio sounds on my laptop when i listen to the radio or a media file like youtube etc, when i listen to a cd or dvd it works perfect, I have downloaded all updates to realplayer and windows media player to see if this fixes the fault but it has no effect. does anyone know what is the problem here and how to fix it thanks.

double click on the little speaker icon in your system tray, turn the volume up or unmute PCM0
