    Hi FCA,

Please be assured that npower do not apply standing charges twice for the same day. The number of days for which standing charge will apply is always as of the day after your billed to date.

    For example:

31/12/10 - 31/03/11 – 90 (this assumes that there was a bill prior to this one that billed up to 31/12/10, thus npower bill would bill standing charge from and inclusive of 01/01/11 up to and inclusive of 31/03/11)
31/03/11 - 30/06/11 – 91 (Previous billed up to date is 31/03/11, so standing charge calculated from and inclusive of 01/04/11 up to and inclusive of 30/03/11)
30/06/11 - 30/09/11 – 92 (Previous billed up to date is 30/06/11, so standing charge calculated from and inclusive of 01/07/11 up to and inclusive of 30/09/11)
30/09/11 - 31/12/11 – 92 (Previous billed up to date is 30/09/11, so standing charge calculated from and inclusive of 01/10/11 up to and inclusive of 31/12/11)

    Total 365 Days

You can verify this by checking your bills as the amount of standing charge will correspond with the number of days in the period minus 1 day.

If you would like further clarification on this please don't hesitate to get in touch with us on 0800 551 555.

    Best wishes,

    Adam :)

Well well well. At last a representative actually posting an explanation. Could that be, he says cynically, for once there is a company positive explanation?

    Handy website here...

[Note to MSE, I wonder if it should be contingent in granting representative rights that an explanation is always required?]

They were quick to agree to credit my account after I contacted them about this.

This system error can potentially make them millions of pounds from their millions of customers who do not notice.

Cynical me agrees with you FCA ;)

Hope that anyone else who notices this 'error' on their bills will let us know

    Hi Adam,

Please be assured that npower DO apply standing charges twice for the same day. The number of days for which standing charge is billed starts on the day previously billed to date.

For example as per my last bill:

    13/10/11 - 16/12/11 – 65 as billed but should be 64

I have verified this by checking my bills and the amount of standing charge will correspond with the number of days in the period PLUS 1 day.

    Best wishes,

    FCA
