Replacing a gas fire

Hi my parents gas fire (baxi bermuda) has a problem for which we have not been able to get the required part
It is currently connected to a baxi 552 boiler, from looking at the specs on this back boiler it seems there are other models of fire which will fit/work with it
Does current gas legislation prohibit replacing this fire one of the other models (possibly due to age, safety or green issues) ?
hope some one can provide an answer

I don't know the answer to the question you are asking, but when you say that you haven't been able to get the required part for your parents' existing fire, I just wondered if you've asked Baxi?
The reason I ask is that Britiish Gas told my MIL last year that she needed a new gas fire and back boiler because of a broken part on Baxi firefront. They told her that spares for Baxi firefronts and back boilers were no longer available.
After a quick call to Baxi I was directed to a local plumbers merchant who ordered the part which cost less than £8 and arrived two days later.0 -
What is the part that is required, and the specific model? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

its this model here:-
w w w partsarena. com/baxi/System/DATA/Dx/DS1/installation/2161/I03-2161/I03-
2161.htm
(sorry link is that way as not allowed to post it fully as I am a new user)
the part we are told we need is the burner part number 74 in the diagram
was originaly told it was the gas valve, couldnt get that part as it was mde obsolete in 2006
was then told no its not the gas valve its the burner
at this point I am beginning to wonder if the guy knows what hes doing and by us changing all the parts eventually a cure will be found
symptoms edges of radiants not getting hot or glowing like middle section and smell of gas
I asked about the replacement fire here because I am able to get my hands on one quite easily and cheaply but am now being told that its not allowed to be installed
Just wanted to know if this guy is making this up so he can sell my parents a new system at the cost of £xxxx's
if so will get a different guy in to fit/repair
thanks in advance

Google baxi 062610, several places seem to have it listed and priced. I think I found the correct parts list.0

What your parents have is not a fire, but a back boiler unit. The fire is an integral part of this and can not be replaced with anything else than a fire that is specifically designed for this purpose. As this kind of system draws it's oxygen from the room it is in and has an open flue, deviating from this is bound to cause a very dangerous situation.
It is absolutely pointless to go parthunting by yourself, as no registered installer in his right mind would be willing to fit it. There are still a number of specialists around who are able to do this safely for you, provided the rest of the system is still safe to use.0 -

Hi, thanks for your reply the 552 is the back boiler the front fire is the baxi bermuda LFE, The front fire I have available to me is one that I believe is suitable for use with the 552
its not an LFE but another baxi bermuda, model type VP3 front fire
So back to my original question :-
Does current gas legislation prohibit replacing the original front fire with this baxi bermuda vp3 (possibly due to age, safety or green issues) ?

We have a Baxi 552 back boiler that was originally fitted with a 'GF Super' fire front. Some years ago we had the fire front replaced with a VP3 that continues to provide excellent service. Replacement parts for both the boiler and fire front have been no problem whatever.
The Baxi brochure lists a number of fire fronts that could be fitted to the 552 boiler, however there is a note that the VP3 is intended for 'hearth mounting' so this may be something that you may need to consider.

I am extremely suspicious of the diagnosis that has put you in this position having experience many so called angineers who do not know how to correctly service open flued appliances.
Has the fire been serviced properly, i.e. the burner removed and cleaned properly, very very few engineers actually do that???Signature removed0 -

There are far more important things to do with a bbu service than taking the burner out of the fire.0
