hi, we purchased a indesit washing machine about 3 months ago and its been trouble since we got it.we also have breakdown insurance taken out on it. we had the engineer out in the first week who said the drain tube was blocked. so every time the machine stops i would "unblock the tube" but this was once or twice a week.then it packed up altogether with the same flashing lights on the display. so 2 weeks ago the engineer was called and thought he had fixed it, put a wash through and it stopped again.so again another engineer was called, he came and found no fault so he went and we put another wash though and it stops again, the engineer called later and said that he had to order something for the electrics of the machine.
all in all we have no washing machine it is being fixed on the 22/12/11 am, but this will be nearly 3 weeks with no machine.
the point im trying to make is that we are a family of 2 adults and 4 children and, as u can imagine we go through alot of washing, therefore it has cost me so far £60 in laundrette fees and not even drying them either. so ive emailed indesit with my concerns and they apolagised and are sending me a £10 voucher for sainsburys, im sorry but this is an insult to me, considering the machine cost me nearly £600 in the first place and the insurance is costing me £10 a month for a year.
i just need some advice as what i can do about this and where do i stand?
any advice is much appreciated.
thanks ady:mad::mad:

I'd imagine you can ask for a replacement or refund under the Sale of Goods Act 1979
Here is a more palatable explanation...
Don't accept the £10 voucher either... I'm not sure, but I'd assume if you do, you may forgo your right to further recompense
They have inconvenienced you unnecessarily,so you should e entitled to a full refund of the costs for launderette bills, this should includes transport costs... did you keep receipts?
p.s. for £600 you could have bought a much better washing machine, so if you can get a refund, do.0 -
Suggest you reject the washing machine as being unfit for purpose and ask for a full refund. You'll probably have to argue it, but if what you say is true and you can prove the trouble you've had, they should agree. If not, take them to the Small Claims Court.
When you get your refund, buy something like a Bosch or Siemens. I've had my Bosch for well over 7 years, it's only ever gone wrong once (under warranty) and I don't think it cost any more than £3500 -
I feel your pain. I would be lost without my washing machine and there's only me and my daughter.
Not sure what the terms of your insurance are but it costs me less than that per month fo my Bosch and if the engineer can't fix it I get a new one.
I would be inclined (if in your position) to write back to Indesit stating just how insulted I was to be offered just a £10 voucher for all the trouble I'd had with the brand new machine. I'd probably cc Watchdog (or similar)It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
thanks for all the replies.
daggy, i have'nt asked for a refund, all i asked for was compesatiuon torwards the launderette costs, and they said they could'nt do that, hence the poxy voucher.
also launderettes dont do reciepts, so no proof for that either.
thanks ady.0 -
3 yrs ago my indesit was exactly the same ,kept breaking down all the time ,it even leaked over the laminate flooring
I took it up with curr.. as I bought it from them not indesit
I plagued them everyday asking where the parts were because I was told different stories every time as wher the parts were
In the end I even asked for a claim form to claim for new flooring to be fitted at their erxpense ,also I wrote a list of everytime the mrs went to the launderette and the cost of the washing I also claimed her time for going there plus the cost of the numerous phone calls
I sent a bill in for £61.25 and had a cheque for the exact amount and a new washing machine !!
plague whoever you bought it from to death0 -
thanks for all the replies.

You should still be able to get your money back.... as long as you can prove how much the launderette costs and then approx how much washing you do per week, you should be able to get a lot more than £10
The key here is 'reasonable' As long as what you are asking for is a reasonable expense, they are obliged to reimburse you. Also, don't accept vouchers... you want cash.
If I were you, I'd insist on a refund... you can then buy a much better washer....
You need to read those pages I linked to and next time they say they can't do what you are asking them to, politely remind them of their obligations under the Sale of Goods Act 1979.... I think you'll find that they will comply.
Also contact trading standards and make indesit aware of this.
Fair point from the person above too... your contract is with the person/business you bought the Washer from and a golden rule in situations like this is that you follow the cash trail.0
