Royal Canin Persian to Applaws

Options
I'm thinking of changing my cats food from Royal Canin Persian to Applaws, as it has such a high meat content.

Any thoughts?

One loves Applaws (I bought a small bag to try), the other doesn't (the fussy one), do you think he will get used to it?

Mine have always been fussy eaters and they'll turn their nose up at all sorts, including fresh cooked fish. Even mixing a little of something the don't want doesn't work - they just pick round it and leave it in the bowl.

If one won't eat it and continues to turn her nose up, I'd change again. Have a look at something like arden grange.
Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.

The only reason I would change from RC is the super high meat content which only Applaws & Orjin (sp?) have.
So I'm not looking for a change as such, but would consider changing to what is probably a superior (???) food.
  • Good luck ...... mine are both on RC (and love it) - I've tried just about every high meat content food (incl Applaws) and they won''t touch it.

You could try writing to them and seeing if they would send a sample - of PAH often have wee bags of foods you can try.

I've tried changing my 5 from RC to both Applaws and Orijen. None of them took to either food, but they did eat it by me mixing it with the RC, then hand feeding individual kibbles to them, then gradually giving them their bowls to eat from. However, this had to be repeated every meal time which I haven't got time to do, so I decided to give up in the end! I wondered why I was going to all that trouble when they all eat RC without fuss, they never get bored of it and they eat every variety I feed them - Fit 32, Sensible or Exigent.

However, I do ensure they have high meat content food by giving them a mixture of a wet and dry food diet. So they have RC dry in the morning and mainly Grau Grain Free at night. (also have Bozita and Smilla from time to time, though they have recently decided they don't like the Smilla - this was of course after I had purchased a 24 x 400g multipack )

    Cats, eh? :rotfl:

    Hi rising

Just curious as to how yours got on with the wet RC? I remember you buying some when it was BOGOF at PaH?

Mine is also on RC and goes mad for it. I've tried him on other 'better quality' feed from time to time but he just turns his nose up.

He always has a bowl of RC down for grazing which is topped up at night, and then he has a small meal of wet food (or fresh meat or fish if I have leftovers) morning and evening. He is a hunter, so he tends to supplement his diet with rats and mice anyway ;)

:rotfl:about as well as you're doing with the Smilla ;) (they will eat the odd pouch but don't like it all the time)

I've now given up ...... they are a nightmare.

Mia will sometimes eat Bozita (still a few left) but can't get through a while pouch before it goes off (Archie won't touch it) and is even getting really fussy about the Gourmet - not sure what I'm going to give her when it's finished (but have quite a few tins:o).

Archie's just as bad, some days the Whiskas is gone in a couple of minutes and others it's hardly touched:mad:

    As you say ..... cats!

I have to say I hadn't appreciated how much actually got wasted as Ben used to pinch their bowls off the worktop and finish them off :(

Awww, sorry to hear that. Sounds like yours are much worse than mine for wet food. I really thought they'd like the wet RC being as they like the dry so much, mine certainly do on the rare occasions I buy it :o
