Landlord won't agree for my deposit to be returned and DPS

Hello
Could really do with some advice. I have moved out of my rented house and now the landlord is refusing to let me have my deposit back because I had left some screws and nails in the walls where I had put pictures up. After my tenancy had ended the landlord refused to let me rectify the problem (I didn't realise it would have been a problem otherwise would have fixed it whilst I was still in the tenancy).
My deposit is in the DPS so looks like we will be going through all the processes, has anyone experience of this?
Kind Regards

Get onto the DPS website right away and claim the whole of your deposit back. If the landlord wishes to make a deduction from your deposit and you don't agree with the amount he tries to claim, dispute it. to be fair, this sort of damage is not necessarily cheap to remedy.
Did you ask for permission to put up these pictures up?
Was there are dual-signed inventory when your tenancy started?0 -
I have requested the full amount back as he's not willing to budge and wants to claim the full £550. No I should have asked permission I guess but the house wasn't in good condition when I moved in,and I would have repaired any damage if I knew it was going to be a problem. He had visited the property several times during my occupancy and never said a word about this. Its as if he has waited until after my tenancy has ended to then complain about it so I he can refuse to let me put it right.
Yes there is a signed inventory but I think its worth as much as the paper it'd written on.
I don't feel I have any chance but am going to try anyway.2012 bring it on!;)0 -
Your opinion of the inventory is not material. The DPS will look at it very closely. What did the inventory have to say about the condition of the walls and paintwork? Even if the property was a complete dump, fixing nails and screws into walls is still damage. Damage which the landlord is justified in seeking to charge you for remedying. They are under absolutely no obligation to comment or warn you of the consequences of putting pictures up if you didn't ask for permission.0

equally they have to charge a sensible amount. How many pictures did you put up ?0

This might accurately be described as being hoist with/by his own petard.....0
