Citroen Saxo Intermitant Starting Problem?

I have a chance to buy a Citroen Saxo 1.4 SX for £300 cash. It's worth much more but has an intermitant fault?
When the car is cold it starts fine, but when it's warm it fails to start and goes into 'Limp Mode'.
Any idea if this can be repaired cheaply? I've been advised it could be a Crankshaft sender or something?
Any ideas?

More than likely a sensor suck as a Crank position sensor or cold start sensor.0

more thank likley a cheap fix here, BIL has a 1.1 saxo on a R plate, did this all the time, was the throttle cable streched and idle speed control valve gone.
£22.00 later all fine.0 -
Thankyou for the info guys. If anyone else can add any further solutions then feel free to respond0

*Update*

Ok, bit of an update here. Collected the car and drove it about 10 miles and the car went into 'Limp Mode' and reduced power - no kickdown on gearbox so could not get up hills easily. Pulled over switched off engine as told this would reset it and just restart it? No, did not even crank over just ignition lights and nothing else.
AA man came and by the time he got to me the engine had cooled down and it started again. He followed me for a few miles but it went into reduced power mode - a bit like when a manual box is slipping on the clutch under acceleration. Pulled over switched off engine and would not crank over again. AA guy bypassed ignition and it fired up no problems. However, drove it home and still on 'Limp mode'.
AA guy reckons it's the ignition switch that's faulty as the heater blower did not work either which he says is linked to the ignition switch. Cooled down and started next day no probs.
Is anyone familiar with this problem on the Saxo 1.4/Peugeot 106 1.4 autobox as I'm at a loss as to what it could be to be honest? Would a faulty ignition switch cause the gearbox to go into limp mode when hot or is there something else going on here that I've missed?
*NB Checked the Temp Sensor and that's fine. Gearbox Inhibitor Switch has been mentioned too?0 -
Reset the ECU and it seems to have rectified the problem - for now at least!
Is this common after resetting?0 -
Automatic ?
gearbox pressure solenoid valve switch.
reads below 11v it throws limp
Try a new battery.
French Autos ALL have this fault, if you dont, dont worry it wont be long before it starts.
The Genuine fix is a new pressure sensor solenoid and a ECU update.
The older the battery, the more it does it.
The ECU re-programm tells it to ignore the switch until 9 volts
Someone did fix it by wiring a switching relay to the switch line to fool the car it had 12-14 volts at the switch.
It may still be online somewhere, think it involved a injector relay and some wire.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Oh dear..resetting ECU is only temporary then:(
Yes, it's an automatic with what looks like a fairly new battery to be honest. However, I guess it won't hurt to try a replacement.
The Gearbox pressure Solenoid valve switch is on top of the box I understand. Easy to fix?0 -
get the codes read. without that your guessing in the dark.0
