What Diesel car would you recommend?

  • Thank you all so much for your replies. I have looked at some of the cars mentioned, and although I was a bit unsure of the name Skoda (brainwashed brand snob, I know) on looking into it a bit further, a Fabia Vrs looks to be a good option.

I have found a few fabias that I like but one specifically due to the age (05) and the low mileage. Unfortunately (or fortunately, whichever way you want to look at it) the engine has been upgraded to 180bhp. Now I don't have a problem with this at all in that I'm sure it would be very fun to drive. My concern is that getting insurance at a reasonable cost would be unlikely due to my age and them considering I must be a girl racer if I want a fast car like that. I'm not, I think I drive quite sensibly, I just think it's good to have the ability to overtake quickly when you need to and that handles well as that makes me feel safer. Any thoughts or recommendations for insurance companies or should I give this car a miss?

    Thanks

peugoet 206 or 306 td 1.9,, are bit pricey to insure, trust me you save it all in diesel, parts are cheap, the tax is expensive. can get a fair bit in the boot, more than a mini.

I have a Seat Altea Diesel, it's amazing, I would also recommend the Seat Ibiza or the Skoda Fabia, both driven by friends or close family members.

Pros and cons of engine remapping is a big subject!

The 2 biggest potential drawbacks are that it can invalidate the manufacturers warranty, and if not driven properly the increased power/torque can cause the clutch to slip and eventually burn it out.

Pros are.... you get a car that the car goes like stink!!

Adrian Flux have a good reputation for insuring young drivers/performance cars.
