Where to put tumble dryer?

Hey,

I am looking to get a tumble dryer, but don't have space in the kitchen for one, I have a rather large cupboard under the stairs that would do but the elec box is in there, would it be safe to have the TD there too?

Wherever it goes you will need to vent the damp air, so you either need an open window or hole through the wall.

This assumes its not a condensing model.

PS My neighbours have theirs in the spare bedroom and vent it through the window, it took me months to figure out where the nice floral smell was coming from!!

If I were to buy a condensing model, would this be ok under the stairs? We currently have a spare room but have a baby on the way :j so no longer spare!

I had this problem and didnt want a condenser.Previous experience put me off them.I saw a condenser kit on ebay that goes with ordinary vent tumble dryers ,I got one of these and solved my problem.

Even a condenser still needs to take in cold air, you can't put it in a sealed cupboard-it must have an air supply (say louvred doors)?

  • We have had a condensing one for years. No problems and probably a better option for you in this situation.
    Je suis sabot...
  • Cant see any reason why you couldnt put a condensing one there - ours is still running yeards after buying and its used daily this time of year

If you get a condensor, do your research well. Some of them.....let a lot of damp into the room

Get a good quality condensing dryer and put it in the understairs. Leave the door slightly ajar when in use to ensure that you dont allow humidity in the room to build up and you will be fine.
