Hi everyone,

I apologise if I've put this thread in the wrong place but I couldnt find anywhere else and seeing as Im a student, if the shoe fits i guess.

Last week I decided I was going to give contact lenses a shot so I made an appointment with specsavers. I naively told them I was going to pay by direct debit (£13 per month for the elite package) and I got a week's free trial. 3 days into the trial I've discovered I can get the contact lenses really cheap online, but specsavers have a great aftercare service and you get everything delivered etc.

Im just wondering what my next move should be. Do I buy them outright every 3 months, or do I sign up to the direct debit and get them delivered? I think if I'd said I'd be buying them myself, that I would have had to pay for the lenses. How do you guys get contact lenses?

Thanks,

Dex

One of mine has one of their packages (£8 pm). I do think that you can get them cheaper online and is something I have thought about. They don't wear contact lenses everyday though (quite happy with their glasses most of time) I guess the upside of plans like Specsavers is that you pay a bit each month, as you quite rightly say get them delivered too and they will chase/remind you to have your annual check up and state they will not send out any more lenses until you have been checked(no bad thing really if you are one for putting things off) and as the check up is included in the plan!!

If you think you are going to be wearing them daily I would go for getting them online and put a bit away each month for a check up. If you think you will be wearing them less frequently and like the fact that you wil be paying a bit each month with a check up included go for a plan.
As a side note, at one stage we had an excess of contact lenses and following check up needed them to be changed, Specsavers did this with no hassle and they also stopped collecting payments for a year until the excess had been used!
