Could you help me understand this please?

    Hi, i hope i can.

I think it would be fair to assume that a good proportion of compers on here have to sleep or work or have other distractions from comping so that they might not have done all current competitions upto page 1 on the competitions page.

They might be just a few hours away from page 1 and the hourly comp, if not bumped, would stay locked at the time it was posted. By continual houly bumping the effect is that the comp is moved up to 12 hours forward for no reason other than informing people who don`t know how long an hour is.

Another reason why i think a timer is better is it allows you easily to time when you input your entry at set times. There was an hourly comp that i had great success with through sheer luck i worked out at what time to enter and i won multiple times. Since i bought one of these timers i can relax and not fret about missing an entry though i always seem to be out of the room when it goes off.

As to having an email sent to remind that its time to enter you would have to remember to keep checking your emails for this so you still have to remember why not just think that an hour may have passed and its time to re-enter ??.

Sorry about the long answer and i timed this post as to cause the least possible time bump.

    Anyway good luck too all.
    It`s getting to the point

  • And what about the people who do not use the method you've described above when entering competitions? Maybe they do enter by most recently modified threads, or are "up to date" as you put it? Then there'll be others entering competitions by searching for the date, who might also miss this if they entered 18/12 competitions yesterday...

So - how do we satisfy everyone? The simple answer is, you can't and there'll always be those who would prefer an alternative approach. Of course people can potentially find their own way around such problems - those wanting a bump could set an hourly reminder/alarm, those not "up to date" will realise that the forum isn't static and could start their comping session by searching for recently posted competitions ending today, before heading back to where they were?

Neither approach is more or less valid than the other.
You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back
