A friend’s daughter got 7* and 3 A's as GCEs and 2A's and 1b at A’ level.
Got into top university and is in 3rd year now.
Apparently tutors in the university were bit baffled as to why she has been getting quite erratic results from her work.
Had dyslexia test and she has now been diagnoses to have dyslexia with ADD.
We never suspected this and are very surprised.
We are waiting for proper report to arrive.
But how can we help her? We don’t much about dyslexia.

The ADD will need to be dealt with as an issue in its own right. aadduk.org may have some useful information.
For the dyslexia, she can contact the British Dyslexia Association for advice and help.
She is also able to get help through the disabled student allowance. She may be able to claim for help such as a laptop in lectures and she will be able to get help at uni with organising her workload, which must have been taking quite a toll on her. She needs to contact student support services and she'll need copies of her diagnosis reports.
Good luck to her. She's clearly got an amazing drive in her. It'll do her well.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
I've got ADHD. You can ask me about it but I may not remember to answer...0 -
Also, it's very common for ADD to be missed in girls, especially if they're not hyperactive. I'd suggest Sari Solden's book on women with ADD. It's extremely informative as well as being very positive.

I was in a similar position. The EP report should suggest what help she might need and she should apply to DSA and then they will assess any help she needs as well - and provide it. She will probably have developed her own coping mechanisms and so need only limited help.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

I was diagnosed as dyslexic in my first year at university. Before that, I'd got 7 As at GCSE and 3 As at A level.
My type of dyslexia, caused by brain damage at birth, means I don't have trouble reading, only with writing (and some other things, such a trigonometry and foreign languages). I'd developed a lot of "coping strategies" without actually realising it, because I didn't realise other people did things differently. Because I avoided writing unless I had to, for example, my memory got a lot better.
Did the education psychologist's report say anything helpful about how to deal with dyslexia-related problems?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
